Threee Weeks

I have avoided talking about how long we have been in the hospital primarily because I don't want to dwell on it, but today marks a milestone. Three weeks ago tonight, John Asher was recovering from his Tetralogy of Fallot repair. We thought (and were told) it would be a "quick" in/out type procedure. Maybe 5 - 7 days in the hospital. What we have all learned since then is that nothing John Asher does is typical, by the books or even predictable. We have also learned that tet babies usually have this repair at five months and the longer they wait to have their heart repaired, the longer it takes for their heart to recover and begin functioning normally. Our surgeon, who is a wonderful surgeon, had never operated on a tet baby this old and so this has been a learning experience for all of us.
So where is John Asher three weeks post surgery?
Doing remarkably well.

He started some physical therapy, which involved sitting up in this little seat today to get his body used to the "higher" elevations...

He has begun to show an interest in playing again. He loves this Clackerz thingy I bought him and the flower beside his pillow. I thought he needed a little visual stimulation against his stark white surroundings and it turns out he loves it! He loves to grab the petals and feel them.

He even got a surprise visitor, "Aunt Devin" came to see him. We are allowed a few limited visitors right now and she dropped in and surprised us both! We love you Aunt Devin!

John Asher still has several hurdles to overcome. One praise I would like to mention tonight is that his heart rhythm stayed regular all day today! Praise you Lord! Now we need to pray that it stays regular as they wean him off his medicines that are helping it stay regular.
