More about the referral

About the referral. We are actually not considered special needs. We are in the "healthy child" program. Shortly after submitting our dossier to our agency I inquired about the Waiting Child Program. I didn't know much about it and asked a few questions. I was encouraged to fill out a medical checklist and submit it and they would hold onto it for me. I took it to my peditrician and we talked it over and Jeremiah and I checked the special needs we thought we could handle. I submitted it with the understanding that they were holding it and we were not actually in the program. So imagine my surprise when I got an email and then a phone call from a sweet lady at my agency asking me to consider a special needs baby. Can I just say that turning down that referral was excruciating! Because of Eli's birth, they have put us on hold in the waiting child department until further notice from us. We discuss updating our checklist and going back into the special needs catagory. I just want to make sure we aren't doing that because of the long wait, but instead because the Lord has called us to adopt special needs. I truly believe it is a calling and not a decision to make lightly, just because I don't want to wait. So we are praying about it and I am praying for the Lord to lay it on my husband's heart just as big as mine so that I know it is from the Lord. And just a word about my agency, they are WONDERFUL. They did nothing wrong, I believe it was just a misunderstanding on my part!

I can only imagine how difficult that decision was but I am sure it is comforting to look back and see how God did have a plan. I will pray for you as you decide what to do. I appreciate that you are taking time to make sure it is right for your family. When we first decided to adopt SN we weren't looking at Cleft L/P. It seemed too big for us. But I am thankful God intervened because now we have Ryan and I KNOW cleft L/P is truly no big deal. And by watching others journeys there are many special needs I am open to now. Such as club foot. Once you know who your child is you are willing to move mountains for them. Ryan's surgery was a turning point for Hannah and his relationship. In a good way! I will be praying for you and your husband.

Your story illustrates perfectly why we want to be at an agency that gives us the option to switch- so we can truly prayerfully consider what the Lord has for us and the act on it when we are sure. I think we are making the switch to our new agency on Monday. I'm nervous, but really excited!!! :)We'll still be in the NSN program, but should we change our minds, we'll have that option!

Thanks for being so open about your experiences- it is a blessing to so many of us!

Jenna :)

Thanks for Visiting!
